Inspire, Uplift, and Transform Young Minds

Musical Minds partners with local primary schools across the Northwest to deliver a 3-phase learning journey, guiding pupils from instrumental lessons to band sessions, building confidence, wellbeing, and a love of music.

3 in 1 Learning Journey

1

September – April

Paired Instrumental Lessons

Our "Buddy lessons" give each child focused guidance on their chosen instrument, something that large band-only programs often can't provide.

This approach helps children develop skills, grow confidence, and feel comfortable, so that when they join Phase Three band sessions, they can participate naturally, positively, and collaboratively.

  • Instruments: Guitar, Drums, or Piano — 20-minute paired lessons
  • Milestones: Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards
  • Qualifications: Ofqual Rockschool certifications
  • Mentors: Led by enthusiastic, degree-level tutors

At Home

Practice Made Fun!

Our online dashboard makes home practice enjoyable and confidence-building. Children can jam, track their progress, and explore their own musical voice — all from home.

  • Have a Jam: Play-along videos make practice interactive and fun
  • Track Progress: Certificates mark every milestone
  • Tutor Feedback: Encouraging end-of-term reviews
  • Parent Feedback: Forms help us tailor learning to your child

May – Jul

Weekly 30-Minute Band Sessions

After mastering their instrument and jamming at home, children are ready to join the band!

They play in small groups of six, featuring drums, guitar, and piano, building confidence, collaborating with others, and enjoying performing as a team.

  • Band Placement: Grouped by level — Bronze, Silver & Gold
  • Performance: Yr 5 and 6 pupils take the stage for end of year gig!
  • Next Steps: Buddy lessons and milestones continue in September.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our approach combines specialized Music Notation and Kodály methods to ensure every child learns the "language" of music, not just finger patterns.

This is achieved through our unique 3-Phase Learning Journey:

  • Phase 1 (Sept–April): Small-group, instrument-specific lessons to build technical mastery.
  • Phase 2 Home Support: Pupil dashboards give pupils play along videos to jam to, with progressive milestones to track progress.
  • Phase 3 (May–July): Collaborative band sessions where pupils apply their skills in an ensemble. End-of-year performances for year 5 and 6 pupils that celebrate progress!

Musical Minds supply all instruments during lesson time.

We advise parents to purchase an instrument for pupils to practise on at home. Children can then bring these instruments to lessons for tutors to tune and set up properly.

Should you wish to purchase an instrument and wish to seek advice, please feel free to email us from the contacts section of our website.

Across the academic year, pupils will receive 35 lessons, spread evenly throughout the terms. This ensures consistent progress and plenty of opportunities to develop their musical skills. For a detailed breakdown of lesson dates, please check our calendar.

Instrumental Lessons are 20 minutes long and taught in pairs (September–April). Band Sessions are 30 minutes long in groups of 6–8 pupils (May–July).

Lessons take place during regular school hours, so pupils do not need to stay after school for lessons.

If a pupil misses a lesson, don't worry! It will be rescheduled during our catch-up weeks at the end of each term. This ensures every child stays on track with their learning and doesn't miss out on valuable practice time.

There are 35 lessons across the academic year.

  • Lessons are paid in 11 monthly payments of £33 via direct debit.
  • There is no payment taken in August.

To help pupils build their skills and confidence, we provide structured guidance for home practice.

Practice Diary

  • Every half term, each pupil receives a practice diary.
  • At the end of each lesson, tutors write down exercises and songs for the week.
  • Each task corresponds to a video on our website, offering additional guidance on the piece, for pupils to jam along at home.

This ensures pupils remember what they've learned and allows parents (even those who don't play an instrument) to support their child's practice.

All lesson times and days are available on your child's pupil profile dashboard within our web app.

Notifications for Schedule Changes

If a lesson time or day is changed, you will receive:

  • An SMS text message
  • An email directing you to the dashboard to view the update

This ensures you always have the most up-to-date lesson schedule at your fingertips.

To cancel lessons, please email us via our contact page.

Please note: Once a month has been paid for, we are unable to offer refunds. To avoid being charged for the next month, we kindly ask parents to provide at least two weeks' notice before the next payment is due.

If you have any questions about cancellations, feel free to reach out — we're happy to help!
